Counselling Sessions
Women who have experienced domestic abuse will need some form of emotional support, and some will benefit from specialised counselling. They need to be listened to with respect and without being judged. They need to be believed, and to have their thoughts and feelings understood. At the Bridge Project, we offer one-to-one counselling sessions to address an individual's personal issues and experiences of domestic abuse. Our counsellor is currently a student volunteer working towards her Diploma in Counselling.
The intention of counselling is to help you know and understand yourself better, and to come to terms with what has happened to you. It can help you to break free from previous abusive relationships and may help you look at your beliefs and past experiences in a different way. It can help build up self esteem, and may identify a way of living which is more satisfactory and fulfilling for you.

Your counsellor will not give you advice, but she will offer support. It is important that you feel happy with your counsellor, and that you are confident in her abilities. Our counsellor has a good understanding of domestic abuse and its effects, and is able to offer support and guidance. She will listen to whatever you want to say, in confidence and without making judgements.
Sessions are usually held at a regular time each week, for about an hour.
There is currently a waiting list for counselling sessions. To register an interest in attending counselling, please Contact Us.
